January 06.01.08 Romantic sunrise over the Swiss Alps and Alsace. Take a walk, with snow shoes up to the top of the Belchen and enjoy a beautiful sunrise. The price of the guided tour includes all equipment, a large breakfast buffet, and the cable car ride back! ( The fantastic views are free of charge!). 18.01.08 Museum Night ( Basel ) – Basel’s museums throw open their doors and stay open all night. With extra shows and special exhibitions it’s worth staying up all night!
The last weekend in January sees the International Husky racing. Why not try guiding a sledge yourself. February 03 & 17.02.08 Another two chances to enjoy a guided tour using snow shoes .See above (06.01.08) for details. Carnival. Fun for adults and the children. This is always the Thursday before Shrove Tuesday ending on Ash Wednesday. Street parades, fancy dress and fun fun fun. The week after carnival in Germany, Basel carnival starts. Three days long the city of Basel is driven by the sound of piccolos, drums and carnival brass bands. Plenty to see and hear!
March Snow Shoe Trek. Another chance to take part in a “snow shoe trek” – a real alternative to skiing.( See 06.01.08 above for details ) Wieden Male Voice Choir. A special event is the annual concert of the Wieden Male Voice Choir. This concert takes place every Easter Sunday. The choice of songs ranges from modern English and German pop to traditional male voice choir! Mainau Island. Situated on Lake Constance, the Island opens for you to view it’s beautiful gardens, winter gardens and butterfly house for you to view. The internationally known island is a must for both “gardening experts” and families. Fantastic displays await you, both outside and in the glass houses. The arboretum is a must too! The season kicks off with the Orchid exhibition every year. For the kids there is the Water World. ( Try getting the kids away from this !!!) Well worth a day trip! April International music week ( Basel ). 17 – 27.04.08 Gidon Kremer, one of the world’s best violinists is the artistic director of this one week festival of fantastic chamber music concerts held in the museums of Basel. Jazz Festival ( Basel ). At this festival “old masters” play right alongside promising young jazz talents! Many international musicians play at this festival!!! May 01 - 04.05.08 Motorbike weekend Todtnau. An international gathering of motorbike fans from all over Europe. A special church mass for all denominations ( a blessing for the safety of all concerned ) kicks off this weekend of fun, discos and special events. Also a chance to sample the excellent roads of the Black Forest. June 7 – 29.06.08 Euro ‘08 Football pure !!! Basel hosts a variety of international games. 22.06 – 29.07.08 Festival of Voices Held in the Lörrach area of Germany, Basel and parts of alsass, this is a chance to see some well known stars as well as newcomers, at reasonable prices. 2007 saw Katie meluar and Pink take the stage. 2006 was Seal!
July Basel Tatoo. Bagpipes, brass bands, folk dancing and plenty of excitement make this a fantastic week! A real alternative to the Edinburgh Tatoo!
31.07.08 The Swiss National Day is celebrated one day early on the banks of the Rhein. A wonderful firework display is watched by over 100,000 people!

September A selection of pottery markets and Art & Craft Fairs take place around September. Please ask and we’ll tell you where and when.
October Davidoff Swiss indoors. One of the most important international indoor tennis tournaments with the world’s top players. Basel Autumn Fair. Switzerland’s biggest fairground – Basel is an amusement park for two whole weeks. An annual event since 1471. Take part in our yearly “Rambling Week”- always the 40th week of the year! A wonderful chance to see the Black Forest as it really is – naturally on foot!
Freiburg’s Autumn Fair. A real alternative to Basel! All the fun of the fair. Halloween in Europa Park. Germany’s largest theme park is right on our doorstep. Europa Park is twinned with Alton Towers ( there are special rates for visiting both theme parks). Europa Park pulls out all the stops to make this a halloween to remember!
November Culinaria exhibition Freiburg. The Black Forest presents the best restaurants! A must for those who love food!

All year there are diverse coach trips, which can be booked once you get here – if you don’t feel like driving – you don’t have to ! This is just a very short suggestion list.
